The Amended Senior Certificate is an opportunity for adults aged 21 and older to write their Matric. You will need to prepare on your own and register to write the exams.

To qualify for admission to the Amended Senior Certificate, you must be:
21 years and older, with:

  • A General Education and Training Certificate (GETC); or
  • A Grade 9 or Standard 7 school report; or
  • A recognised equivalent qualification at NQF Level 1 with 2 official languages; or
  • An incomplete Senior Certificate; or
  • An incomplete National Senior Certificate with School-Based Assessments (SBA) expired
In exceptional cases, you an out-of-school youth, age 18-21 who could not complete your school education due to circumstances out of your control. Proof must be verified by the Head of Department in the Provincial Education Department.

Registration for the Senior Certificate Examination:
  • If you qualify to write the 2017 Senior Certificate examination, you must register for the examination by the 30th of November 2016.
  • Register at any provincial education office (provincial head office, district office or a circuit office)

To register you will need:

  • Completed registration form
  • A certified copy of your ID, birth certificate or passport (for foreign candidates)
  • Attach a copy of previous highest qualification results
  • If you entered or wrote any Grade 12 or equivalent examination before, you must include the examination numbers for those exams

Qualified candidates will write June-July 2017
Examinations will constitute 100% of your final mark if you do not have a School Based Assessment marks
Administered at designated examination centres determined by the Provincial Education Department
May be offered by independent assessment bodies accredited by Umalusi

What subjects you need to pass:
You must have 6 subjects. Adults with approved subject credits from current Senior Certificate or National Senior Certificate will be recognised
No N3 subjects will be recognised except Business English and Sake Afrikaans Second Language N3

Subjects that are not recognised or that do not comply with NSC standard must be replaced, by selecting subjects from the National Senior Certificate subjects list, that include the following:

  • Home and First Additional Language in English, Afrikaans, IsiNdebele, IsiXhosa, IsiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, SiSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga
